: The line 'Tommy can you hear me?" is also in Hedwig and the Angry Inch - though I presume this is a quote from the original source.
Ken's a very 'out there' directer, capable of genius on the one hand, and utter folly on the other.
The classics are obvious - Women in Love, the Devils. So is the rubbish - Liar of the White Worm (though I acknowledge that others may get a kick out of this material also).
Then there are those films upon which people are divided - altered states, and, yes, Tommy. To me both have their merits - altered states in particular. And, as a period piece alone, Tommy is invalueable. A classic of cinema, whether some critics like it or not.
I was saddend to read that he sometimes can't get work. A real pity.
Question: Did he direct the movie Gothic?
Hey Dragsters,
: Just wanted to know if anyone else appreciates or is a fan of the films of Ken Russell.
: I have loved his work for a while now and after the response to the Tommy reference, just wondered if any fellow Dragsters like Russell's filmwork.
: I believe, he's an incredibly talented filmmaker whom I don't feel is truely appreciated. His films are grandiose(even by today's standards, I was hugely impressed by the scale of the production of his film version of Tommy upon a recent viewing), perverse(just about any film he has done), intelligent and funny.
: I say he's deserving of more attention, bigger budget projects(his last two films were shot by him with little or no budget on a camcorder; don't get me wrong, I love that he's doing this, but I want to see more of what he's capable of with some money), and some awards of recognition for his body of work.
: I'm sorry that this has little to do with Imperial Drag, but most of the Dragsters here seem to have an admiration of film.
: Have a great weekend Dragsters!
