HAPPY NEW YEAR, DRAGSTERS!!! Hope all is well with you. I was just catching up on my reading of the latest postings on this site. It sure does warm the very cockles of my heart (Mmmmmmm! Hot cockles!) to read the seemingly endless praise and support of a band long deceased. You think because you release a record that you think is really amazing, but hardly sells any copies here in the states, that you weren't a success or that people didn't like it or get it, or even cared. You guys consistently prove me wrong. None of us can thank you enough. I especially appreciate the compliments from new converts who aren't aware of the Jellyfish connection - your comments always reassure us that what we did was not in vain. This is not to say that the "old-school" JF/ID fans are anything to be taken for granted - you guys will always rule! Again, THANK YOU!
I recently heard some interesting news on the Eric Dover/Andy Sturmer front. It seems Dover was recently contacted by Andy to possibly work together on some kind of project in the near future. Apparently Andy sort of "buried the hatchet" as it were, which is pretty amazing considering the reputation Andy had for being, well, let's just say not the nicest guy in the world. I have not had the honor of ever meeting Andy myself, and though I respect him immensly for his work in Jellyfish, after hearing from a large number of people that he was a pretty unsavory character to work with or even try to be friends with, I decided I'd probably pass on the chance. I have not heard whether or not Dover's going to take him up on the offer although I do know that Eric's still playing with Alice Cooper's touring band.
I just saw Roger the other night at what has become he and Charlotte's bi-annual "catch-up-with-all-of-their-friends" parties they throw every so often. He is doind well. Still doing remixes and the occasional "guest-spot". Joe was not present, as he was apparently in Florida where he was with family for the Holidays (I think). The Brothers McDonald of Redd Kross fame were there, as was E from the Eels. Jason didn't make his usual appearance, although he was expected by his AIR bandmate (and former Redd Kross drummer) Brian Reitzel. It was the usual fun party with the usual end-o-the- party ritual of sitting round the Manning T.V. and laughing ourselves silly watching gems from Rog & Charlotte's video gallery of the absurd. Good times! (yeah, good times!)
On my front as of late, I have been working with a good friend of mine, Luke Tierney (Ex of SILVERJET) on a new project that actually seems as if it will take off. It is tentatively titled "Snow Job", and we have been working on tracking some new songs for it at the Sand box, a studio owned by my friend Rick Parker (of Lions & Ghosts fame). Everything sounds real good so far. We just finished recording a cover of "Straight up" by yes, Paula Abdul (ex Miss Janet choreographer and Laker girl). We sort of took it down a different path, though. It sounds more like White Zombie's "More human than human". Hopefully we'll be releasing the album early this year. I'll keep you all posted.
That's all for now. Take care!
